The Modern Classics section focuses on cars of interest built between 1981 and 1999 which are affordable to buy and run, getting quite rare in relation to surviving numbers and are not actively represented by either the Individuals section or the Car Clubs. Such cars were once a regular sight on our roads but, in some cases, are now becoming an endangered species.

Modern Classics entries include:

Small hatchbacks (e.g. the Talbot Samba and Vauxhall Nova)

Family cars (e.g. Austin Maestro and Volvo 340)

Executive cars (e.g. Alfa Romeo 164, Renault 25 and Volvo 740)

Motorsport saloons (e.g. Lancia Delta Integrale and Vauxhall Cavalier GSi)

Affordable sporting cars (e.g. Opel Manta, Saab 900 and Toyota MR2)

Performance hatchbacks (i.e. ‘hot-hatches’, such as the MG Maestro and Peugeot 205 GTi)

Affordable small off-road vehicles (such as the often accessorised Suzuki SJ410)

Modern Classics aims to highlight the appeal of these cars, many of which are still affordable to drive and can be used as a daily car, in the hope that it will encourage even more younger car enthusiasts to join in this interesting hobby.
